+ Learn a new musical skill in 10 minutes. Explore Soundfly’s wide array of free online courses and gain a musical edge during your lunch break. Or sign up for the Soundfly Weekly newsletter, and learn something new every Tuesday!

All of our mentored online courses come with six weeks of 1-on-1 professional coaching and feedback on your work. It’s like having a personal trainer, but for music! Whether you’re interested to dive deep into a topic covered by one of our songwriting and arranging courses, like Unlocking the Emotional Power of Chords, Orchestration for Strings, or The Creative Power of Advanced Harmony, or to work with a Soundfly Mentor directly, without a course, to achieve a specific goal, we can help you get there.

But that’s because so many of the composers listed are relatively obscure Italian artists we don’t tend to talk about much. Composers who have created extraordinarily beautiful music and contributed positively to Italy’s vast and vibrant history, yet are more or less forgotten today. So, since it’s Friday, we thought it would be fun to explore a bit about each of the composers we’ve been introduced to via this game.

Financially-savvy songwriters have been taking advantage of this loophole by quietly selling a portion of their catalogs. In addition to receiving a big lump sum payment taxed at half the rate, these songwriters are diversifying to hedge against industry turmoil, inflation, and declining royalties. It’s something worth checking out!

[AC]: “If you imagine you are participating in one of these experiments, you’ll get played a short melodic excerpt, say, a scale, then you get played a tone. And then you have to rate on a scale of 1-7 how well you think the tone fits with the music that was played before. Based on those ratings, you can order basically how well people think various tones fit in with the same context.”

Either way, mobile streaming seems to have stolen all of our beloved video stars with irrefutable might. But today, as we welcome back one of the strangest global holidays, World Television Day, let’s reflect on the irrefutably mighty influence that television has had on the development of music in the 20th and 21st centuries.

This mentored online course is the brainchild of composer, educator, and cultural diplomat Charles Burchell, and provides a deep, well-rounded understanding of the subtleties of hip-hop beat production. We cover areas of producing hip-hop such as: writing beats and bass lines from scratch, creative sampling techniques, arranging and songwriting, mixing, and more, with a specific eye to hip-hop’s many subgenres.

Producers will use this technique when they have a double chorus in their hands. If the second half of that double chorus will also be the final chorus, it can be a challenge to keep the energy at peak level. And, of course, nobody wants the final chorus to be one that loses its impact or gets boring near the end.

And Ischi really did have the chops! Check out this live performance from 1983, where he sings one of Lang’s own classic tunes, “Mein Vater Ist Ein Appenzeller.”

Using whatever format you want (spreadsheet, notepad, stickies) write down the things you want to get done, say, this month. That way, when you sit down to write songs, record music, email a music industry pro, or whatever, you know exactly what you need to do next. Plus, as you cross things off the list, it’s a little encouragement that you’re making progress.

If, like many of us, you’ve read Sound on Sound’s fantastic audio production articles on the web, you’ve probably already learned something from Mike Senior. His experience writing for a wide audience of relative newbies, as well as seasoned pros in the industry, translates well into this more comprehensive volume. The book specifically covers mixing, not recording, starting with the assumption that you have a tracked project in front of you ready to mix (or that you’ve just received from a client).
